SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/10 November) — Robbers took a total of P4.4 million in cash in yesterday’s bank robbery in Surigao City, a bank official said.
Allaniel Bumanglag, bank manager of United Coconut Planters Bank in Surigao City told MindaNews that four armed robbers who swiftly carried out the robbery fled with that amount.
Bumanglag said checks amounting to P2.3 million were also taken by the robbers, but he said the checks could not be encashed.
He added the cash and checks were deposited by personnel of Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc., the lone power distributor in Surigao City and 11 towns in Surigao del Norte.
Two of the four robbers who wore helmets barged into the bank and declared a hold up while the other two donned caps to partly conceal their faces based on closed-circuit television footage.
Supt. Veraque Acosta, city police chief, refused an interview, saying he was in a conference.
